BUSS Group

Successfull since 1920

Today, the owner-managed group of companies with around 500 employees is diversified in the business areas of port logistics, wind energy, gas and hydrogen, logistics real estate, shipping and investments.

The company was founded in 1920 by Gerd Buss in Hamburg. The former ship's officer set up his own business for loading and unloading ships under his own name. In the 1930s, Buss was one of the leading stevedoring companies in the Port of Hamburg. However, the container presented the traditional port company with an existential challenge. Buss had to reinvent itself.

The diversification of the Group today is closely linked to the generational change after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Dr. Johann Killinger joined the Hamburg-based Buss Group in 1991, in which his family held a minority stake at the time. In 2002, he took over all shares of the Buss Group.
